Dental Veneers and Dental Laminates

A Step-by-step Guide to the Dental Veneers Procedure

Getting dental veneers is a popular smile makeover technique. It is a quick way to restore your smile. It can correct staining, chipping, and cracking. Each porcelain or composite shell is custom-fit to give optimal results. If you are thinking of getting dental veneers, here is a step-by-step guide to help you get ready.

Step 1: the consultation

A consultation with the dentist can help determine if the person is a candidate for veneers. This will involve a complete visual exam. Digital X-rays may also be in order if the dentist wants to cover all the issues first. The dentist will have a discussion with the patient regarding the goals the patient has with dental veneers. This will result in a treatment plan. The plan aims to satisfy the goals and optimize the dental health of the patient.

Discussing the financing plans is next. The dental staff will present insurance estimates if the patient has one. It is better for the patient if the dental clinic has payment plans. One of the staff could explain the payment packages one by one. The patient could then choose which one is the most favorable, budget-wise.

The dentist will tell the patient if he or she is a good candidate for dental veneers. The dentist will also let the patient know if there is a more suitable treatment. Minor chipping could have a faster solution in the form of dental bonding. This type of restoration is less costly than veneers. It needs less preparation. Porcelain veneers do not even need filing down natural tooth structure.

Step 2: preparation and short-term dental veneers

Scheduling the next appointment will follow. In this next visit, the dentist will start the treatment. A patient who chooses porcelain veneers will have thin shells. These do not need much tooth preparation. The dentist will clean the teeth, then file down at least 3% of the healthy enamel. This will help the shells fit better onto the teeth.

The enamel removal is a painless process. Even so, dentists offer conscious sedation to patients who have a fear of dental procedures. This type of sedation helps the patient relax during the procedure. Fitting the temporary dental veneers will come after the tooth preparation. These veneers are acrylic, which will cause a strange sensation in the mouth in the meantime. The patient will need to wear them for one to two weeks.

Step 3: getting the permanent dental veneers

The dentist will call the patient back once the permanent veneers are ready. The dentist will remove the temporary veneers and place the permanent ones. Showing the permanent veneers to the patient will confirm any minor adjustments. The dentist will bond the dental veneers to the prepared teeth with durable dental cement.

Dental veneers can bring back the smile you lost

Damage to teeth can happen over time. This can affect the function and appearance of your teeth. The right restoration can bring your smile to its former glory. A dental appointment will help determine if you are a good candidate for dental veneers.
