CEREC for Orthodontic Clear Aligners

You can now have CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) to start your teeth straightening journey. Many patients want to have straight natural teeth. That is why they seek orthodontic treatments. Traditional orthodontics often take longer and cause discomfort to the patient. The advancement of dental technology has given birth to a quicker, more comfortable option in CEREC clear aligners. If you want to know more about this type of orthodontic treatment, here are the details.

The difference in CEREC

In previous aligners, dentists need to get the mold of the patient’s teeth. It may take weeks before the dental lab finishes fabricating the aligners. CEREC moves the process up to another level. This new system uses the digital impression of soft or hard oral tissues. The CAD/CAM technology in this system allows dentists to fabricate restorations right away.

CEREC enables the dentist to take accurate dimensions of the patient’s natural teeth. It documents the position, size, and structure of the teeth. Then the 3D images will help create clear aligners. These aligner trays fit the patient’s mouth, adding comfort to the patient’s orthodontic treatment. The patient will wear the aligners one after the other until the patient’s teeth achieve alignment.

The digital models

The dentist uses CEREC to create digital models of the patient’s teeth. Its software allows the dentist to select a base shape and adjust its dimensions. The system automatically engraves the patient’s scan date and name on the model. This removes the need for physical molds.

CEREC’s software allows the dentist to manipulate the model. The dentist can separate the teeth from the model in one click. Then, the software segments them. Model analysis happens next. The software finds the measuring points and anatomical landmarks of the model.

The visual support enables the dentist to display the possible result of the patient’s dental alignment. Here, the dentist can even simulate extractions, showing the patient the possible procedures and progress of the orthodontic treatment. The interactive presentation of the digital model removes the need to show sample plastic molds of other patients. CEREC gives custom-fit dental care a whole new meaning.

The advantages

The CEREC digital scanner is easy to operate. In a busy clinic, the dentist can delegate this part of the treatment to clinic assistants. The small camera for taking pictures of the patient’s teeth adds to the patient’s comfort. Scanning is quick and accurate as well.

During this pandemic, the CEREC workstation fits the needs of both dentist and patient. It is easy to clean and sanitize after each use. The Ortho Software supports the easy and quick diagnosis. Dentists can install it on the clinic’s computer. Everything else that the dentist needs to create the patient’s aligners is in the workstation.

The CEREC system for orthodontic aligners is more efficient and accurate

Some patients still worry about the pains of orthodontic treatment. CEREC skips the discomfort of wearing brackets and trays. The waiting time for your aligners will not be an issue either. CEREC allows you to go home and start your teeth-straightening treatment after one dental visit. An appointment with your doctor can start your journey to a straighter, healthier smile with the CEREC system.
